Congressman Mike Rogers made the following statement regarding the Senate’s recently passed immigration bill.

“I strongly oppose the Senate-passed immigration bill and believe it violates the origination clause of the Constitution that requires all bills that would raise revenue to originate in the House of Representatives. This bill, like too many of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s efforts, is full of new taxes. This is yet another glaring example of why the House shouldn’t take up this bill. ”

Rogers joined a number of his colleagues on a letter urging the Chairman of the House tax writing committee to refuse the Senate bill on Constitutional grounds.  

Rogers serves as Chairman of the Strategic Forces subcommittee on the Armed Services Committee and is a senior member of the Homeland Security and Agriculture committees.
