Congressman Mike Rogers made the following remarks after voting in support of House Concurrent Resolution 25, the Fiscal Year 2014 Budget Resolution which passed the House of Representatives today. “Washington’s spending problem poses a long-term threat to our economy and job growth, which is why the Federal government must balance its budget. Our national debt is over $16.7 trillion and continues to grow. Each year we don’t have a balanced budget means more debt for our children and grandchildren, and Congress owes it to hard-working American families to balance the budget just like they are forced to do. “As Armed Services Committee Chairman McKeon pointed out, this budget would also help shield our troops from further damage under sequestration. “We didn’t get into this mess overnight. It took decades to accumulate our massive debt and there are no easy fixes. Tough decisions will be required that may not be perfect to everyone, but I commend Chairman Paul Ryan and the House Budget Committee for charting a clear and responsible course for our nation.” |
