Rogers Applauds Veterans Retreat Held on Conserved Property

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) — Congressman Mike Rogers made the following statement today celebrating a successful Veterans Retreat held from November 1st- 3rd  in the Third Congressional District.

“The Veterans Retreat held over the weekend on a conserved property in Chambers County was a powerful example of family and community coming together to support our nation’s heroes. By inviting local veterans and their children to leave behind their daily responsibilities and take part in activities like clay shooting and fishing, the Barn Group and the Wounded Warrior Project provided an incredible opportunity for healing.

“The sprawling 450-acre property where the retreat was held is exactly what Congress intended when it created incentives for the voluntary conservation of environmentally important land. Had it not been for Ornstein-Schuler’s investors’ decision to place a conservation easement on the property, it might have been commercially developed and this retreat would never have been possible.

“I want to thank the Barn Group, the Wounded Warrior Project and Ornstein-Schuler Investments for devoting so much time, effort and resources to a great cause. I also want to thank the many community members who showed up and volunteered their time over the weekend.

“We need more retreats like this one, not only in Alabama but across the country — and Congress must do its part to continue encouraging the conservation of other properties similar to the one in Chambers County,” Rogers said.
