Chairman Rogers Statement on FCC Commissioners' Testimony
December 13, 2012 - U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (MI-08), Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and a senior member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, released the following statement regarding testimony from Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Commissioners to the Communications and Technology Subcommittee on December 12, 2012:

“Over the past year I have been working alongside Chairman Walden to seek opportunities within the federal government to release or relocate spectrum holdings.  I believe we must closely examine all viable options on the table, including the Department of Defense.

Congress has a responsibility to the American people to ensure our armed services are properly equipped and outfitted.  Technology has transformed our military readiness and response and because of it, lives have been saved.   Training is an integral part of that readiness, and I am sure we can all agree that the spectrum supporting technologically advanced systems must be preserved at all costs.  That being said, commercially developed spectrum holdings must be increased to meet consumer demand for mobile usage, which are undoubtedly a critical engine of economic growth for the U.S. economy.

I call upon FCC Chairman Genachowski, NTIA Director Strickland and Secretary Panetta to work together towards a viable solution.  I will work closely with all parties to ensure the federal government continues to be more efficient with its resources, while ensuring appropriate resources are dedicated toward protecting the safety and security of our nation.”
